I think it's a case of existing habits being more of a hinderance than a
help.
I'm hopeless if you stick me on a Mac, and almost hopeless if you put me
on a Windows machine because I've un-learned all the reflexes associated
with that particular environment.
Similarly, my two lads (5 and 6) are very at home on Ubuntu, but are
unremarkable on the Windows machines at their school, for the very
limited tasks they're required/allowed to perform. They ask "where's
firefox?" in the same way that Windows users ask "where's the blue e?"
