I think an equally good question is:
"How are you monitoring this?"
Are the disks capable of being monitored in any way that will alert
you to failures.
Are you using SMART on the drives (this will start a whole new debate
but I'm for it)?
Yes - you should have parity RAM and UPS - am assuming you have the
latter. RAID really _hates_ power outages.
