| Subject: [Wylug-announce] Dr Richard Stallman: For A Free Digital
| Society - 23/08/2011
|
| All,
|
| Dr Richard Stallman, president of the Free Software Foundation, will be
| in Leeds on the 23rd August 2011 to give a talk, "For A Free Digital
| Society".
|
| "Activities directed at "including" more people in the use of digital
| technology are predicated on the assumption that such inclusion is
| invariably
| a good thing. It appears so, when judged solely by immediate
| practical
| convenience. However, if we also judge in terms of human rights,
| whether
| digital inclusion is good or bad depends on what kind of digital
| world we are
| to be included in. If we wish to work towards digital inclusion as a
| goal,
| it behooves us to make sure it is the good kind."
|
| nti Leeds have genreously secured a suitable venue at Leeds
| Metropolitan University.
|
| The talk starts at 7pm and is expected to last around two hours, with
| time for questions afterwards.
|
| Entrance is free but registration is required at the following
| EventBrite page:
|
| http://rmsleeds.eventbrite.com/
|
| There will be some merchandise on sale to support the FSF, and
| donations to the FSF are welcome, but voluntary.
|
|
| Best regards,
|
|
| James
