[Wylug-discuss] MP3 (UMS) Disk Space Usage

My MP3 player's disk apparently has a large chunk of space taken up by
something that isn't there -- any suggestions for tracking down what's
happening gratefully received.

It's USB mass storage, and connecting it to Ubuntu mounts it like this:

  $ mount -l -t vfat
  /dev/sdb on /media/MP170 type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=hal,shortname=mixed,uid=1000,utf8,umask=077,flush) [MP170]

And it claims to have most of its space used:

  $ df -h /media/MP170
  Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
  /dev/sdb              884M  636M  249M  72% /media/MP170

Yet there are only a couple of small files there:

  $ du -ha /media/MP170
  16K   /media/MP170/CONFIG/CONFIG.TCC
  16K   /media/MP170/CONFIG/CONFIG.DAB
  48K   /media/MP170/CONFIG
  64K   /media/MP170

Other tools (ls, find, Nautilus, ...) confirm both the lack of space and
lack of anything using it.

Where's the space gone? How do I get it back?

Thanks.
