[Wylug-discuss] An interesting source of spam

In the process of tracking down a source of spam.
The ISP involved says ...
"I have been advised that as a logistics / courier organisation
they are provided with the email address of the recipient
of parcels / consignments from their clients (such as online
retailers). These addresses are automatically added to certain
mailing lists in accordance with their privacy policy."
"As a result, each time you purchase an item that is sent using
this particular courier you email address will be re-added."
The "their privacy policy" of course refers to the logistics company's
privacy policy which won't be seen by the recipient.
It is not that easy to track this down without putting the screws onto
the logistic company employing this bizzare business practice. If that
fails sending a subject access request might become necessary.
Assuming that the delivery was to the door in the last 6 months I have
narrowed it to 3 possibles (the spams only started in January and the
list seesm to be refreshed evey 3 months) however logistics companies
aren't always identified on delivery paperwork. An added problem is
that some use unsigned Royal Mail delivery for the final mile!
Interesting.
