I've been promising people for months that the news page will be 
rebuilt.  Sadly the old version of Joomla that was running it just 
creaked to a halt one time too many.  So, the new version is now 
online.

Seems to be popular.  Gives you the chance to look at most of the open 
source or FSF news out there without spending your whole life 
wandering around the internet.
