I can confirm this first hand.

The Raspberry Pi downstairs does double-duty as a backup server and RaspBMC
front-end.

The network-to-USB-disk write performance is around 1.4MB/s, but that's good
enough for me for a bit of overnight rsync.

Hopeless for anything serious though.
