[Wylug-discuss] WYLUG meeting and group development

Hi all

WYLUG has been in existence since the 1990s and has always had an Announce and
a Discuss forum. I assume that someone is still moderating these lists.

It met fairly regularly until 2011 after which meetings largely became social
meetings with occasional bursts of activity on the lists.

One reason why BradLUG was formed was because WYLUG was perceived to be too
'technical’ for the increasing number of users coming to Linux after the rise
of Ubuntu.

Personally I enjoyed the 'technical' presentations but wasn't interested in
travelling all the way to Leeds just to socialise on the off-chance that
something interesting turned up.

Though I will not travel to north Leeds for a meeting unless a particular
subject comes up in which I am interested, I welcome the attempts to revive
WYLUG but I think those attending the meetings need to tailor the group to
their needs rather than try a predefined formula.

BradLUG has evolved a lot since its formation.

John
