This came up last night (well, the question of how was it implemented
as well as the fact that nobody had managed to actually install the
beta yet...)

known...) Windows POSIX layer was implemented (since NT days...)

Interesting. A sort of parallel to how the Linux 'binfmt' layers work
(how you can run different types of binaries on Linux - another
feature that is probably rarely used, or used without realising it).
