[Wylug-discuss] Wylug-discuss Digest, Vol 131, Issue 4

It's a very good point that David raises - when I kicked off the meets again, it was just in my local.

Given that we've not had a large meet-up for some time (and because I previously mentioned having a summer meet-up in town) it's perhaps a good idea to kick that off.

On the table were a couple of pubs.
We had the Vic as one, Whitelocks as another.
A non-pub venue of Pasta Romagna (outdoor seating and a lower level function room - it's on Albion Place, round the corner from WH Smith)

As for a date, the 20th June was discounted as people are off (and I'm tied up now as well).
How does 4th July fit for people? Yes, I know it 'conflicts' with some American knees-up.
Although the thought of Independence as in Free/Open (not as in EU, whoops - can of worms...) does work well.

So, before we go for a vote.

Location :
Vic
Whitelocks
Pasta Romagna

Date :
4th July

Have we any other nominations?

R.

Seems easy enough to me?

http://www.harrogatebus.co.uk/cmsUploads/route/files/36ttdec15web-2.pdf

Theres a bus every 30 mins in each direction from outside the pub?

Plus theres free parking at the Lord Darcy for everyone who drives? In town you have to pay?

But hey feel free to move it. That seems to have been an constant source of discussion every week? Yet often when people say they will attend they don’t bother to turn up. Remember the MeetMe episodes?

Cheers

Andy

Because it's convenient for the current attendees, but everyone else who asks about venues asks for a city centre location so that they can also attend. It's not easy for people to get public transport to the Lord Darcy.

David

Why don’t we just use the downstairs area of the Lord Darcy - its a private bar area - just need them to sort the wifi out down there as its patchy at best. I had a private party there a few weeks ago and it would be perfect for us?

Hi Darren,
I couldn't make it (as predicted - I tried to note that here on the
list and on the meetup site istr), and I believe David could not make
it either. Anybody else make it ?? Pesky Bank Holiday Mondays!

Whilst here then - let's confirm the next meet should be on June 27th ?

Heh, yeah, that is a bit of a trek!
But, now they have set the precedent that may be useful to chase up
for some of the Europe events coming:

I expect to be at LinuxCon+ContainerCon in Berlin in October.

Hi Darren,

Good idea about finding a venue in Leeds.

What about The Adelphi? It's walking distance to the train station and there's a pay and display car park opposite the pub which is free after 6pm. They have local cask ales, plus different snugs/areas. I think Martyn Ranyard has experience meeting there for the Leeds Wearwolves group a few years back and it's where Leeds PHP Meetup takes place. There's not really much of a beer garden looking at their website, but they have a concreted area at the back which can seat 20.
It would be a good location for people to get to, especially compared to the Darcy.

Alternatively we could try using the workspace at the Open Data Initiative in Leeds? They're At Munroe House
https://goo.gl/maps/4743NV6o4Wz
Normally there's a charge to use their workspace for events, but maybe they would provide an area for us to try it, and then I could ask BetFred if they want to sponsor us by paying for the workspace meeting. It's a longer walk from the train station, and no beer.

Regards,

David
