I messed around with winex a while back, and had no such problems when
installing multi-CD games - maybe you should try winex to see if it

The game I tried was GTA:Vice City (damn it's a good game!), but I only
tried it for the novelty value on my linux box, as my Windows machine has
a gamepad and better graphics card (sorry people, but some games need a
gamepad, and I didn't fancy trying to get it working under linux!).
