The PPP end of the link is entirely generated by the phone ... I'm unsure
what the phone talks to the network in, but it's possibly not PPP.

Entirely depends on the network, but I don't think any UK network does
(certainly Orange and Voda and Cellnet don't), you get a private address
which is NATed externally.
