Our home lan consists of 2 Mandrake boxes and a 4 Windows boxes. The
first line of defence is an SMC router/firewall. This is pretty much
'black box' in that it is not very configurable. Ports can be
opened, but singly, not in ranges. I think it is really
port-forwarding, since for every port opened a host ip has to be
given for the box using it. I run shorewall on this box as a second
line of defence.

I have GnomeMeeting running on this box. Now my grandson would like
to use msn video <wince, hide head and swear he can't do it :-)> and
I'm beginning to feel very mean about telling him that it's
impossible behind the firewall. Is there any reasonable way of
allowing him (at this stage I haven't even checked which ports he
would need)? I'd like to hear any comments about both practical
aspects, and also any thoughts about the degree of risk in allowing
it.
