Hm, cant you use ld -l/mnt/rw/discs/disc0/part2/lib/lib_nonshared.a 
otheroptions (or ld -L/mnt/rw/discs/disc0/part2/lib/ otheropt)?

Your error message 

> "can't find /usr/lib/lib_nonshared.a"

apparently indicates that it searches the wrong directory - is 
$LD_LIBRARY_PATH only used for shared lib's?
