Looks like any or all of those could apply. 

One thing is for certain, right now Breezy is well and truly messed up.

A good proportion of the X utilities can't be installed, because they
depend on a package called xbase-clients which is not available.  

I've also found that various package upgrades removed some pretty
fundamental packages (e.g. dhcp, ssh), and several of them can't be
re-installed.

So the warning to anyone else whois tempted to try out Breezy, is:
"don't do it, unless you are willing and able to do a great deal of
low-level configuration by hand".

I'm inclined to give it a go, just to find out how all the bits of xorg
are supposed to work, but I'm not optimistic.  

If I find out anything useful or merely interesting I'll let people
know.
