  A quick googling suggests this warning would
apply to all modern kernels and distributions
(and hence that the original advice was
somewhat out of date, as John observes).

  Intriguingly, Linus was provoked into using
descriptions like "evil" and the apparently
very scathing "in bad taste" by this (thanks
largely to sane system design, I've never
had a problem that needed this fix). The
somewhat more lucid statements on ide-scsi
always having caused more problems than it
solves and thus being "a silly emulation
layer that wasn't really worth it" pale by
comparison!
