Felix,
In my experience of parallel scanners, I don't think you'll get it
working over a USB adaptor.
The ones I've seen access the IO registers for the parallel port
directly in order to use it like a bus, rather than through the usual
methods that would be employed to send data to a printer.
There *is* support for *some* parallel scanners on Linux, but I'm pretty
certain you'd need a 'real' parallel port for them to work.
