Alternatively, if the windows boxen receive IP addresses from DHCP you could
use dhcp3-server & bind 9. These can be configured so that when the dhcp 
server receives a hostname (windows normally sends this as part of the request)
then your dhcp server can update bind (dns) with that computer's IP & declared
hostname.
