[Wylug-help] Mount problem

Have a nice shiny new eeePC courtesy of Father Christmas. Have replaced
Xandros with "Ubuntu eee" based on Ubuntu 8.04 (which is the flavour I have
on my laptop). Whilst attempting to transfer various bits of data from
laptop to eeePC SOME (not all) usb sticks give a "Cannot mount this volume"
error on the eeePC. I have looked at permissions and other properties but
can see no differences between those stciks that will mount and those that
will not.
Can anyone offer guidance please?
