/var/log/samba/borg2.log on the client shows
[2008/01/20 17:10:52, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(1033)
borg2 (192.168.0.40) connect to service anne initially as user anne
(uid=500, gid=100) (pid 7147)
[2008/01/20 17:12:25, 1] smbd/service.c:close_cnum(1230)
borg2 (192.168.0.40) closed connection to service anne
smbmount.log shows
[2008/02/08 14:46:47, 0] client/smbmount.c:send_fs_socket(412)
mount.smbfs: entering daemon mode for service \\borg2\Data1, pid=4989
[2008/02/08 14:46:47, 0] client/smbmount.c:send_fs_socket(412)
mount.smbfs: entering daemon mode for service \\borg2\anne, pid=5002
Nothing after that. I guess that I had an existing set of mounts when the
firewall was activated, but it wouldn't allow a new connection. Does that
sound right? If so, I've got iptables problems.
