Yep, I wasn't meaning to rub your nose in it.  It's the sort of thing that's
all too easily done.

And that's something I'm guilty of.  It doesn't matter why it's inadequate,
but inadequate backups suck.

You'd have to install your bootloader on the new disks so that it booted, and
perhaps recreate your initrd to include any drivers required for your new
controller.
