Gary, Xorg is now supposedly so intelligent that it doesn't need one - getting 
everything it needs from your monitor's output.  Unfortunately it fails for 
many monitors.  You're in Fedora, aren't you?  To generate an xorg.conf 
install and run system-config-display.
