Am I doing something wrong or is the update system broken (temporarily I hope)? I've tried just following links and, I think, also tried to use the fedup utility but the outcome has been just the same: *** server cannot be found or *** server does not exist (the exact message disappears very quickly, so I cannot remember it accurately: is there some log file I can list to find it accurately?) Thanks in advance, Roger Beaumont (in Keighley, BD21 - using TalkTalkO1F98C wi-fi and, I think, router to connect to the internet - other functions like web browsing & email work fine so I don't THINK the ISP is the fault) From roger-b at inbox.com Wed Dec 19 10:03:30 2018 From: roger-b at inbox.com (roger) Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2018 10:03:30 -0000 Subject: [Wylug-help] re my last Update query Message-ID: When I wrote that I had tried using fedup, that was via the graphical interface where that is, I think, called SOFTWARE TIA, Roger From rogerg at rolla.co.uk Wed Dec 19 10:56:18 2018 From: rogerg at rolla.co.uk (Roger Greenwood) Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2018 10:56:18 -0000 Subject: [Wylug-help] updating fedora 29 In-Reply-To: <4ec862be-9fcd-537b-f12c-4147a507b418@inbox.com> References: <4ec862be-9fcd-537b-f12c-4147a507b418@inbox.com> Message-ID: <9dbb289d-b295-b9e8-4933-3f7bb1c354ef@rolla.co.uk> Hi Roger, I don't use fedora myself, (ubuntu when not at work) but I haven't seen any traffic on this list for a long time (I forgot I was even subscribed on this email) so you may be better searching elsewhere. If fedora do updates like ubuntu then some command line stuff may be your friend - in my world it would be "sudo apt-get update" and see what you get back (their server could be down, for instance). Good luck! Well, it's still working but I'm going to install something like Mint or Manjaro. Last time I had a Fedora problem I was writing a Fedora 12 distro review for Linux User and Developer magazine. If you look at the Fedora users list archive you can see a lot of stuff about this. There is even a thread about how to get DNF to function properly. Or, so they claim. I've given up. Try something else. CentOS makes a nice web server. For my part. Being someone who uses DigitalOcean.com for a web server. Small scale stuff. I don't have a problem. Anything goes wrong I delete my server and install a new one from a backup. -- Richard http://www.sheflug.org.uk/indexpage
