  On my Debian system I have /etc/firefox/firefoxrc which contains
 this:

 # which /dev/dsp wrapper to use
 FIREFOX_DSP="alsa"

  I don't imagine it is Debian-specific, but it may well be.  You
 can try modifying that file to use none/auto/aoss.
