[YLUG] Fwd: [YSG] Next two meetings

Hi all,

Just to follow up on the current state of YLUG, I currently have no
plans to organise any meet-ups in the future due to lack of attendance
and personal drive. However, if anyone else feels there should be a
meeting, I recommend just picking a venue and time and announcing it.

Having said that, a number of us are joining York Software Group on a
trip out to an Agile Yorkshire talk on Testing, *Tuesday* 8th May.
Lifts are currently available, details below.

Hi All,

The March meeting didn't happen, and the April meeting won't be
happening as planned. We do, however, have a revised 'April' meeting,
and a May meeting planned.

Yay!

1) AgileYorkshire are hosting an event on Thursday 8th (details
below). The topic is 'testing', and will be a good chance to hear
about testable code.

Phil and I are going, and we're taking at least one car so can offer
lifts - please hit 'reply' now. The main event starts at 7pm, so we're
looking to leave York just after 6pm.

2) Our May meeting will be something to do rather than to listen to...
possibly Coding Kata, and possibly refactoring. Wednesday 23rd at
Fulford Scout HQ (unless anyone's got a better venue). See Phil for
details.

As always, the more the merrier, so please feel free to invite anyone
who you think might be interested to either, or both, of these!

If you'd like to run a segment, or a night, please let us know. All
topics and methods are fair game - it's just got to be (vaguely)
related to software!

8th May, Testing for Everyone, Ady Stokes + Lightning Talks

posted 25 Apr 2012 02:40 by Neil McLaughlin   [ updated 25 Apr 2012 02:42 ]
At Chris Moran’s talk on Test Management there was a glimpse of the
old ‘why do we need specialist testers’ argument.

The standard response is, ‘because testers have a different mindset.’
But rarely have I heard an explanation of what that mindset is.
Over approx 45 minutes I hope to give some insight into the testers
mindset, do a 10 minute exercise about testing and offer some
suggestions on how requirements can be tested.

If anyone would like to to a short (~10) presentation prior to Ady's
talk then drop an email to ingo at agileyorkshire.org. It can be on
interesting methods/technology you are using or simply a discussion
you want to have.

When: 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6:30pm onwards. Presentations
start @ 7:00pm and finish at 9:15 unless otherwise stated
Where: nti Leeds, Old Broadcasting House, 148 Woodhouse Lane, Leeds
LS2 9EN. See here for directions.
Cost: All meetings are free and registration is not generally required.

Our meetings are informal and friendly with plenty of opportunity for
discussion and chat. We try to provide drinks and pizza and afterwards
adjourn to a local pub (The Victoria Hotel) to continue the
discussions.
