I can't find a copy of the original email I sent, but it's basically the
internals of two PCs c. 2001 and 2007, and two 1U servers (Dell
PowerEdge 1550 and 1650).

Reusing old PC hardware is hard, because Moore's Law also applies to
FLOPs/£. Over a year, it's usually cheaper to buy one new, lean bit of
equipment than reuse several free-but-slow bits.  :-/
