I was about the post a similar solution - though I don't run Ubuntu so was
unsure which directory was going to be used to hold the cache. Sometimes
symlinks don't work and need a bind mount instead - so if the symlink works
then you will be off and running but if for some reason that does not work
then try a bind mount instead and when you are done then remove the bind
mount.
