I think we need to split the issues:

do we invite him and if so to what?

He can decide whether or not he wishes to accept the invitation.

If he accepts the invitiation, we need to treat him in the manner in which he 
considers appropriate. However, if we don't think we can treat him in that 
way, we don't give the invitation.
