How about this novel idea?   Let's just concentrate on installing 
something and getting it running. we could even install Gnome, KDE and 
icewn on the same machine so we can then fire up each in turn and 
compare them.  That should really fan the flames!

I have all three on one of my (dual booting) PCs.
