First, take a look at OpenSuse 10.0!
Even if it's a Beta release, it's still significantly(!) faster
than the 9.3 version. Ubuntu are still to "Debianish" to be a real friend!

Re Windows codecs for video.

You need a package nemed w32codec-all ( or was it w32codecs-all ? )

SuSE and many other Linux brewers do not provide the codecs and especially
the DVD viewing software as default. This is due to possible threat of being sued
by MPAA.

Ubuntu? -> Is a Debian isn't it? Look for APT!

Use APT and reinstall xin-ui and update the w32codec-all package. This should
correct your problems.
