Ubuntu + dvd = awkward.

It's a restricted format with various legal type issues, so the core Ubuntu
won't let you have it. I found a page on the Ubuntu wiki which might help.
[1] Apparently you need the libdvdcss2 package.

rpms? You'd probably have more luck with debs, as Ubuntu is Debian based.
Synaptic is your friend - graphical apt front-end, very easy to use.
There's info on the Ubuntu wiki about setting up repositories and things.

If it's a CD you use a lot, you could set it up as a repository. Or you
could copy it onto the HD and install from there. Alternatively, there are
ways of setting up local repositories [3], and you could copy stuff into
there and use synaptic.

In general if you're struggling with anythung Ubuntu, it's worth checking
their wiki - it's got a fair bit of information in it, and it tends not to
be written in jargon.

I hope that helps point you in the right direction, but if you're still
struggling, do please post again with more info. Someone will be happy to
help you out, though we're at the end of my knowledge already.

hugs,

Jen
