xrandr --version will tell you which version your server supports.
Probably the easiest way to see what version your driver supports is
to just run xrandr and if you see just basically a list of modes and
not much else then it's likely 1.1. If you see a list of outputs like
VGA-0, DVI-0 etc then it's likely 1.2

I don't know what the current state of the nv or binary
nvidia drivers are.
