a friend whom i regularly sharpen my linux pushing skills on has allowed me
to stumble into a potentially great idea.... if you have enough ram.

is it feasible to have your linux system, with a virtual windows box
contained within it, to boot loading it all to ram?

his reluctance to go for linux these days is his insistence to stick to
windows to be able to use his familiar software and games... not buying the
crossoveroffice and wine talk, he prefers virtualisation, but wont make the
move to linux until he can see true 100% native speeds (or better), which i
insisted was possible, and after some incoherent ramblings and musings on
"potential"... this copy2ram idea came up.

u guys know this stuff better than i....

... have i got it right?

if you could squeeze your whole system into ram... it would yeild
considerable speed benefits, right? even in the virtualised doze... right?

...

right?

i'm quite keen to try this out in slax6, the distro i'm currently sitting
in, and once dualscreen is on the go, and tomas gets the modules page fully
functional, might become my main system. weird as it feels to say that.
slax just has a very different feel to all other linux distros. barely
feels like i'm in a linux os at all.

The Universe speaks in many languages, but only one voice. The language is
not Narn, or Human, or Centauri, or Gaim or Minbari. It speaks in the
language of hope; It speaks in the language of trust; It speaks in the
language of strength, and the language of compassion. It is the language of
the heart and the language of the soul. But always, it is the same voice. It
is the voice of our ancestors, speaking through us, And the voice of our
inheritors, waiting to be born. It is the small, still voice that says: We
are one. No matter the blood; skin; world; star; We are one. No matter the
pain; darkness; loss; fear; We are one. Here, gathered together in common
cause. we agree to recognise this singular truth, and this singular rule:
That we must be kind to one another, because each voice enriches us and
ennobles us, and each voice lost diminishes us. We are the voice of the
Universe, the soul of creation, the fire that will light the way to a better
future. We are one.
