I am forwarding this post from the lugmaster list. Darren Austin who
runs a slackware mirror service is looking for a sponsor to host his
slackware.org.uk domain. If anyone is interested give him a call.

Hi,
As some of you may know (but most probably won't :)), I run a Slackware
mirror service for the community. The service is based in the UK (which
differs from most mirrors), and provides not only a mirror of Slackware
itself but various Slackware based projects and additional resources.

For example, I host a (faster) mirror of the Slamd64 project, various
repositories of Slackware packages from the official Slackware team members
as well as various 3rd party developers.

I am also the primary host (and one of the lead developers) for the GNOME
SlackBuild (GSB) project (http://gnomeslackbuild.org/) which brings a
complete and un-intrusive GNOME desktop back to Slackware. The mirror has
also recently become the primary repository for Absolute Linux
(http://www.absolutelinux.org/) which is a one-CD Slackware based
lightweight desktop.

This is all hosted under the slackware.org.uk domain (which I own and run
for the benefit of the community, not as a commercial enterprise).

For the past couple of years, the mirror service has been hosted at an ISP
in London, paid for out of my own pocket. As i'm sure you can imagine, this
hasn't been cheap, and I receive no income or financial reward for doing it.

Although the current ISP has provided and excellent service and even
upgraded the hard disks in the server for free, it is unlikely I will be
able to afford to renew for another year of service with them.

So, i'm here to reach out into the community to (hopefully!) find a
company/organisation that would be able to provide some hosting sponsorship
for the mirror.

I have a 1U rack mountable server which can be used for the project (the
current server is rented from the ISP and not my own), so would only need
hosting and bandwidth from any potential sponsor. A couple of IP addresses
and 2 network connections would be good too (as I have a "lights out" board
for the server) but not essential.

If anyone can help me with some sponsorship or has any ideas where I can try
please get in touch ASAP. The current lease for the server runs out in
April, so timescale is becomming a bit of an issue!

For any potential sponsor, I am more than happy to carry a logo or message
for them on the web pages/motd's of the server, and/or a message in email
footers produced by the (planned) mailing lists.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if any more information is needed or
anyone can help further.

Thanks for reading :)

Darren Austin.
