[dundee] MySQL backup woes

In postgresql, I use pgdump (to text) and then compress: there is a similar 
method for MySQL, I think. This means I do not have to shut down the servers. 
However, you could try shutting down and then copying the 'real' data 
directories (rather than dumping). That can occasionally be faster.
