[dundee] Problem finding my desktop

I've tried: 

xxxxxxxxx:~ # cd Desktop
-bash: cd: Desktop: No such file or directory

and:

xxxxxxxxx:~ # ls ~/Desktop
ls: cannot access /root/Desktop: No such file or directory

Both the above are c&p from the command line.
