Hi Callum
  A number of easy questions. Where do you meet up and to what can I do go get ecquainted with linux before the meet.?  Experience is a great thing but I don't know of any system near me that runs linux. Maybe a book or a linux magazine? By the way irc.freenode.net did not work.

Welcome to the list.  Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month.  Keep an eye on this list for the location and time of the next meeting :D

In the meantime you can chat to us at #falkirklug on irc.freenode.net.

This group is still in the process of re-building itself, so if you don't get an answer to your question here try asking on the Edlug or Scotlug mailing lists.

Also the #scotlug channel is quite active, again this is on irc.freenode.net.
