Maybe. I use Ubuntu & Gnome3 on both of my desktops and my laptop, as
a software development platform, every day of the week. I'd say that
the majority of developers I know still prefer OSX devices, but Apple
have definitely lost their shine of late so Linux is still has a
pretty good niche for programming. But yes, for just getting stuff
done with a computer then cloud and tablet apps are making the running
now.

Also: Raspberry PI!
