Now there is an interesting idea ! Fits the facts.
A change of all 3 disks, did not cure the problem. Worked OK for a bit, but under load
get errors. The problem first appeared (after 5 1/2 months uptime, and a box put together
a year or two ago) at 4am on Monday - that is when the backup starts --- ie extra juice
needed to move the tape.
Problems occured most under heavy I/O, eg: copy one disk to another.

I am going to get someone to stick a volt meter on the box tomorrow.

I have spent today moving all the s/ware onto a new box, getting all the config right.
Seems OK.

I must admit that electrical power calculations are not something that I do, maybe
I ought to.
