I am a very happy Mandrake user. It is true that they are financially=20
restructuring, but there is no need at this time to worry about their=20
viability. The courts put in a sort of administrator to make sure that t=
hey=20
get the restructuring right, and their is every reason to believe that th=
ey=20
will survive.

One very good reason for choosing Mandrake is that there are very active=20
member-to-member support mailing lists as well as the support offered by=20
MandrakeSoft. Club membership is also to be recommended, but not essenti=
al. =20
Recently we have set up a TWiki web to gather useful FAQs. One page I am=
=20
actively involved in is building a sorted list of useful urls.

If you have broadband they are easily downloadable. The first 3 cds are=20
freely downloadable, I understand, and extra packages available from=20
Mandrake's website and zarb.plf.org. Mdk 9.1 is not yet on the shelves, =
but=20
is downloadable. Many have had troublefree installs, but I get the=20
impression that older or more exotic hardware could be troublesome. 9.0 =
is=20
pretty good, assuming that you use the download facility to get all the f=
ixes=20
and security updates (you can do it in batches if you don't have broadban=
d). =20
If you are happy to stick with 8.2, which included kde2, not 3, you can h=
ave=20
my set of original discs.

If you would like me to copy 9.0 discs, please contact me offlist and we =
will=20
arrange something. I could also duplicate a Knoppix disk.
