With ref to the conversation last evening wrt providing power for a 
laptop from a 12v battery:

I've had a look at the Maplin catalogue and found three units which 
might be of interest.

Catalogue/part numbers are N12BB (£34.99), N59AC (£19.99)and N11BB 
(£39.99). These are on page 596 of the Spring/Summer 2005 catalogue
