The floppy does nothing except display the error "given UDI is not a mountable volume", whatever that means.

Anthony,

Welcome to the Liverpool LUG

Is it Breezy Ubuntu ?

It may be worth checking what version of pmount Ubuntu has installed. I
seem to remember there was a similar issue which was resolved by
updating pmount package to version 0.9.6
