hi all!
I am rather (well very actually) new to all this
Linux LUG and all!
I feel there is little out there either formally or informally for the
Linux newcomer :(
I joined this list to find like minded folk not so far up the ladder as to
not be able to see us newbs on the ground lol!
I have been trying (with little interest or support) to get our local
college (Carlett park) to organize a course in Linux (preferably Linux+)
but apparently there is not enough interest (how they would know that
without advertising the course is something of a mystery!!)
so meeting up with people with an interest and a passion for Linux would
be great for someone like me!
just my thoughts and ramblings really!
there is just so much out there for windows..
and so little for Linux.. it is a real shame especially when you consider
the amount of time and energy put in to make Linux what it is!
don't get me wrong..
although I know little about Linux I have quite a bit of experience with
M$ products and have a CCNA A+ Network+ and I have several Linux machines
running here.. there is an awful lot of basic information I am missing :)
and the same I suspect can be said about the majority of new Linux users
that just use X and never get to the command line!
basic info on Linux is presented in a very dry and factual manner and that
does not help the learning process much!
anyways..
enough of my ramblings already :)
am I to assume any meetings will come to my attention here?
thanks for reading this (rather long winded) post :)
I look forwards to meeting some real Linux users sometime soon!
cheers
Garry
