As a postscript, things have got worse.  In particular, I was appalled
to see they have a Facebook "Like" button on the front page of
joindiaspora.com.  I can't imagine a greater disregard for the wishes of
those who funded their Kickstarter campaign.  To me, it really shows
that they're more interested in marketing than they are in freedom.
I've had enough of Diaspora Inc., as have many others so I'm shutting
down my Diaspora pod.

Fortunately, there's an alternative project called Libertree.  It's an
offshoot produced by people who are tired of Diaspora Inc. and actually
know how to write software:

I'll be setting up a Libertree tree soon.  Of course I've learned my
lesson: I shalln’t be advertising it until I'm sure I won't have to
retract my praise ;-)  If you are interested though, let me know and
I'll keep you posted.
