[Malvern] Fixing HP Laserjets?

Does anyone have any experience with fixing HP Laserjets?  I've got a 4 that
seems to produce a poor image, as if the toner cartridge is on its way out
but it isn't (I've tried different ones and a brand new one that someone
gave me).  I dunno if it needs radical surgery or not but it's pretty
useless as it is.
