I got into Linux because I knew lots of people who used debian and
they were always going on about how great it was.  And also i came to
realise that the useful programs i used (manily TeX+friends; Emacs;
mozilla; but also things like ssh and ftp) were going to be at least
as good and mostly better.

Also there were things like make and symlinks that are obviously going
to be useful but not usable under doze.  and having something that
doesnt get visuses or crash was also enticing.  The final straw was
when the defrag utility broke and everything crawled.
