Not at all, they have been carefully designed to allow writing given
the constraints of the underlying flash. That's to say, if you have
these filesystems you can write as much as you like, the limitation is
the performance of the underlying flash.

There are read-only filesystems for flash (eg. cramfs). For 'mostly
read-only' I would imagine a cramfs with some ram based overlay to
allow minimal writes.
