[Nottingham] Script/Utility for a daily system 'health' check and to list status?

Folks,

This is just something that just has to have been done many many times
over...

;-)

What do you run to show a daily (server or desktop) system health check?

Myself at the moment, I rely on Munin and also a plethora of "watch"
scripts that list vital parameters of daily interest.

(All evolved in various different ways...)

And now, I'm about to revamp an old system and...

Has anyone got anything 'neat' that is more 'direct'/'simple' than the
heavyweights of Nagios + Munin (that everyone ignores for any nascent
problem until too late...) that nicely lists present system status so
that you can see at a glance that all is 'ok' *AND* 'stable' and with
meaningful real numbers/measurements...?

(Reminder to self: My watch script is likely a good example for the
Command Line talk to be rescheduled for the next meeting! :-) )

Cheers,
Martin
