My ppp has died on me a number of times, sometimes it seems for no
reason at all. Sometimes it works on a reinstall, sometimes not.

What did you use to set up your ppp connection? I have sometimes
succeeded with kppp when gnome-ppp failed. Another option is WVDial
(http://rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/mandrake/9.0/i586/Mandrake/RPMS/wvdial-1.42-4mdk.i586.html). Is your system dialing with CHAP or PAP? Chap uses a 'chat script' to negotiate the logon process, so maybe this is the script that is failing? Thankfully most ISP's use PAP, so try that.

Actually, before you do any of that, you could try this:

http://www.linux.net.nz/pppconfig/

Let us know how you get on.

Jamie
