My machine did have a pci graphics card in it, at this time i loaded the
following with the help of Alistair:

Xfree86 (XWindows System)
Xf86 (Basic X11 package)
SaX2 (SuSE Xfree86 Configuration tool)
Fluxbox
Blackbox

With the PCI Grahpics Card SaX2 seemed to configure things OK but when the
command startx was given things would hang with an almost black screen.

The command lspci gave me the graphics card details as a vga S3 inc
trio32/64 V+ card. The command sax2 -p was supposed to tell me if a driver
was installed, it wasn't. I have surfed the net to find a driver and i have
discovered that the card is pants. So i have digged out an isa graphics
card, everything booted up ok. Running the command sax2 -p again returned
the response:

Chip 0 is --> Unclassified Graphics   00:01 0x1234 0x5678 NUL fbdev

running the command sax2 returned the response:

SaX: sorry your Kernal is not in framebuffer mode... abort

Running the command startx returned the following output WITHOUT crashing:

XFree86 Version 4.1.0 / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6510)
Release Date: 2 June 2001
If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
 reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)

At least its not crashing now but what can i do now? How do i restore
framebuffer mode? this might help i'm guessing of course as i don't have a
clue what i'm waffling on about!!
